Ken, this is a wonderful and heartfelt podcast! Twizzler has a pure and precious soul! She is sweet and stubborn and silly and precious and a bit of a drama queen! She has been very strong and tenacious because she loves life and her people (you and me)! Not to mention......cheese, honey nut cheerios, bacon, grapes, apples, etc! She has fought very hard, but is tired. We will get through tomorrow, because she needs us to! However, it will indeed be a long day!:(

Thanks. You just saved my notes and highlighted text! It's actually more than that. I used to type every highlight, but now I can just copy and paste. I can't believe I did not know this until now. :)

Ken's lack of propper use of the English Language aside, the thing this whole lending library means to me is how does this impact the authors? Now I know what you are tinking, "We have always had libraries and borrowed books. We don't buy every copy we read. Authors are used to it." There is a key word here, libraries. Plural. With the Amazon Kindle book lending. There is only one library, Amazon. Now I may be missing the particulars and I am ready to admit my ignorance on the details, but it does bother me that it is one central location. Maybe I am off base. And I am sure I made server gramatical and syntax errors. Please forgive me, I got my Computer Science degree from a 3rd tier university, and never paid attention in my English classes.

"To beg the question does not mean "to raise the question." (e.g. "It begs the question, why is he so dumb?") This is a common error of usage made by those who mistake the word "question" in the phrase to refer to a literal question. Sadly, the error has grown more and more common with time, such that even journalists, advertisers, and major mass media entities have fallen prey to "BTQ Abuse."

I applaud both of you for sharing this invaluable information. For reasons that only Jeff Bezos knows AMAZON refuses to provide this functionality in their PC or Web apps. I converted a PDF for a software manual and was annotating it on the Kindle. Then I wanted to put the content back onto the PC so I could use dual screen, or maybe even copy and paste, to make a company guide to the software and to the manual. Alas, Amazon provided no means to do so, and when asked, promptly and politely said it COULD NOT BE DONE.

BOOHAH!

Done and DONE!

I think Ken means that it is hard to understand how a man can look at that many kids and shoot them point blank for an hour and a half. It is very hard for me to wrap my head around how someone can be that evil and methodical in killing young people.

I finally got your podcast into my queue just this week...I should be listening in the next few days as it bubbles up to the top of my running list. Looking forward to it!

As for my own...*sigh*. It's on its way back, I promise. Life just took a giant redirect over the past year, year and a half, and I've been slow to recover from it in the creative sense. But I'm just about there; look for an episode soon! I'm actually planning on trying to use April as a "creative re-kickstart" month! (there's a draft blogpost about it already). Expect big things! Poke me in the eye with a (virtual) fork if I don't do them! *grin*

This is the good side of the web -- people from disparate locations who can connect on a meaningful/substantive level without ever having met. As I mentioned in post way back (http://near-earth.com/2010/..., these connections are as "real" as any in-person connections. Indeed, for some, vastly more so. I do a weekly podcast with 3 other guys I've never met. I confide in people I never met. I collaborate artistically with people I've never met. And that's pretty much the way I like it.

Oh, and what happened to your podcast?

Great point, Deb. I've used text-to-speech many times (several novels "read" while driving in car, for example), and I always check to ensure that it's enabled when I purchase a book.

When I got the notification on your comment, I also went back and re-read my post...interesting to see how much has changed in just a little over a year! Kindles have gotten cheaper, and even more capable of standing alone (with the addition of the wifi connection). IPads...well, they are faster (???) at the same price, and now have 2 cameras. *shrug* Whatever. Still no interest. I do actually have a cheap Android tablet now (a recent purchase, to experiment with some Android development on the tablet format), but still no interest at all in replacing a Kindle with an iPad.

In fact, I'm interested in getting ANOTHER Kindle instead! I've still got my v.2, and while I love it, the Kindle 3's are REALLY nice...I got my girlfriend one for Christmas, and she loves it. It's really an impressive piece of hardware. I can't wait to see what Amazon has up it's sleeve next!

I agree with you.

The one HUGE thing for me - and this applies to all other kindle apps and ereaders -

The ONLY way you can get audio text to speech is on the Kindle device itself. Other kindle apps? Nope. Nook? Nope. Sony? Nope. Anybody? Sorry.

Personally, I use my ipad Kindle app for non-fiction books, and my Kindle 3 for everything else.
